This year, saw the most impressive line up for the Choir of the Year Middle East competition to date, with 12 choirs performing a wide variety of music in a many languages from Italian to Latin, Spanish to Tahitan and Arabic to English. The competition gave an unmissable opportunity for all participating choirs in the region to demonstrate their passion and dedication to choral excellence.
SAMA, opened the competition with an incredible a cappella sounds followed by the lively the all-female group Dubai City Sound with their passionate rendition of It’s Raining Men, which earned them the title of Choir of the Year 2017.
The regional choirs did not disappoint, with their distinctive beautiful sounds; The Siraj Band won the title for Regional Choir of the Year with their peaceful songs about love, where as the Dozan Wa Awtar choir sang in Italian and Arabic, but nabbed the award for Best Arabic Song, whilst the Amaan Choir walked away with Most Dynamic Choir award.
The Dubai Duty Free Nightingales, made up of 19 members of staff from Dubai Duty Free won Best Corporate Choir of the year singing a Madukayan folksong and a beautiful Latin hymn – Non Nobis Domine.
With a lively audience, and the beautiful setting on the grass of the Els Club, the choirs cheered each other on celebrating the best of choral music in the region.
