Lars Åke Levin

Swedish choirmaster, conductor and teacher whose understanding of musical and education psychology informs his choral work and helps singers connect strongly with the music.

After having completed his higher education as a music teacher, church organist and conductor, Lars has worked for the last 28 years as choirmaster and teacher of conducting at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. In addition to this he has taught at conducting courses, managed workshops and seminars and has been a guest conductor in various places in Sweden, Scandinavia, East Asia, Cuba and the UAE.

In parallel with his conducting work, Lars has initiated the building and development of special music schools in both elementary and high school levels. As a consequence, each year many concerts and tours are arranged in Sweden, Europe and USA. Many of his pupils from these schools later become students at the Royal College of Music.

Lars has a broad experience within music, from conducting Bach and Händel to avant-garde music; from Swedish traditional folklore music to vocal jazz and musicals; from choreography for choirs to choral improvising; and last but not least, leading and developing young choral singers.
